Builders Academy Australia (BAA) and City-Wide Building and Training Services (CWBTS) are Registered Training Organisation’s (RTO’s) that works with employers, industry and students to achieve exceptional training results. BAA was established by Simonds in 2005 for the purpose of training Simonds staff and the staff of Simonds suppliers and partners in VET courses in the residential construction sector.

Based on the principle of “builders training builders”, both RTO’s draw on their deep connections to Simonds Homes to ensure it provides the highest quality curriculum and training services to meet industry needs. In 2018 and again in 2020, BAA was recognised as the Victorian Small Training Provider of the Year, and in 2020 was also recognised as the winner of their category at the Australian Training Awards while CWBTS is a finalist for the 2021 NSW Training Awards.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This important role will deliver training and assessment activity for students studying the Certificate III in Carpentry via an on-the-job apprenticeship model with CWBTS in the regions in and around Tweed Heads.

With apprentices in having their learning and assessment primarily completed at their workplaces, travel will be required to building and construction workplaces for pre-arranged training and assessment activity to be completed. All associated travel expenses will be reimbursed by the company. Accordingly, a region to be supported may be up to 75km from the location of the successful applicant.

Reporting to the NSW Trainer Manager, activity will occur between 8.30am and 5pm Monday to Friday.

Multiple roles are available with positions considered as full-time, part-time or as a contractor.

Key Tasks include;

  • The delivery and assessment of the CPC30220 Certificate III in Carpentry qualification in part or full with a focus on completing this on-site with students;
  • Consulting with key clients on their existing and future workforce training needs and supporting the enrolment process for new apprentices;
  • The review, validation, moderation and continuous improvement of the training resources and assessments for the qualification above;
  • Working with the Training Operations team to support the scheduling of on-site training and assessment activity;
  • As required - liaising with Employers, Apprenticeship Support Networks, and other stakeholders regarding the promotion of and enrolment into Apprenticeships offered, and the progress of apprentices completing their studies.

WHO YOU ARE

We are seeking a highly motivated and hands-on individual who upholds the highest standards and will lead by example. You will have demonstrated success in a similar role within an RTO/TAFE environment and have a commitment to ensuring best practice in training and assessment.

You will possess a keen interest in imparting your industry knowledge to those eager to learn and expand their careers as carpenters through an apprenticeship model.

It will be critical that the successful applicant can create and foster close working relationships with all key staff within the team and be able build strong relationships with students and employers. To do this they will be a good communicator, supportive and have a 'can-do' attitude.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

  • Hold a minimum of 5 year experience working as a qualified Carpenter across varied building sites and projects;
  • Hold a TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification;
  • Hold a CPC30211 Certificate III in Carpentry or equivalent qualifications or have sufficient and current vocational competence that would allow for a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process to be completed;
  • Hold a valid driver’s licence and vehicle to travel to building sites (with travel costs to be reimbursed);
  • Have a track record in building strong relationships with students and employers; clients;
  • Experience in working with a high performing team within the tertiary education including a focus on Apprenticeships and Traineeships (highly desired);
  • Hold an operational current working knowledge of the Standards for Registered Training Organisations 2015 (RTO Standards) in relation to training and assessment activity;
  • Outstanding interpersonal & communication skills;
  • Ability to meet ASQA Fit & Proper persons requirements and not be a disallowed person under New South Wales funding contract obligations.
