Due to continued growth and an extensive pipeline of work, this opportunity requires a driven, efficient and commercially minded lawyer to manage engagements with the support of a newly-established Projects team.

Working closely with the Operations and Constructions teams, the role will have a key focus on: 

  • Managing a high volume of tender responses
  • Reviewing, advising tender responses following government design and build guidelines
  • Proposing amendments to clauses, and negotiation with clients
  • Providing legal advice to internal stakeholders

We are interested in speaking to construction/commercial lawyers with a minimum of 8 years’ PAE who are looking for a full time role from market leading in-house teams and Australian law firms. Part-time hours may also be considered for experienced candidates.

Reporting to the General Counsel you will enjoy a great team culture, flexible work arrangements, mentoring and personal and professional development. The Projects business covers an exciting breadth of work by providing services to major government and community focused clients. The role will involve a good level of autonomy, and you will be a legal services partner for our business leaders at all levels of the organisation to:

  • Assist the business pursue opportunities, and help them convert them into client contracts.
  • Review a variety of legal documentation
  • Identify legal-commercial risks
  • Work on both large and complex transactions and projects as well as simple and high volume transactions
  • Assist the business develop strategies and solutions
  • Participate in negotiations
  • Support internal approval processes
  • Develop downstream documentation
  • Train and upskill the business in the latest legal and commercial developments
  • Provide advice on simple and complex issues and claims and manage disputes

The person we are looking for must have the following:


  • Hold a current Australian practicing certificate
  • Minimum of 8 years PQE experience as a lawyer in a large corporate legal practice and/or within a major business 
  • Excellent knowledge of front end construction law that has been applied in the government sector
  • Possess strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with senior stakeholders internally & externally
  • Proven ability to negotiate effectively and to drive results
  • Pragmatic, proactive people person and is happy to work as a team as well as autonomously with support
  • Demonstrated ability to drive results and financial impact
  • Passionate about learning and growing with an organisation
