Builders Academy Australia (BAA) is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) that works with employers, industry and students to achieve exceptional training results. BAA was established by Simonds in 2005 for the purpose of training Simonds staff and the staff of Simonds suppliers and partners in VET courses in the residential construction sector.

Based on the principle of “builders training builders”, BAA draws on its deep connections to Simonds Homes to ensure it provides the highest quality curriculum and training services to meet industry needs. In 2018 and again in 2020, BAA was recognised as the Victorian Small Training Provider of the Year, and in 2020 was also recognised as the winner of their category at the Australian Training Awards.

BAA includes two RTO's: House of Learning Pty Ltd trading as Builders Academy Australia (National RTO Code 21583) & City-Wide Building & Training Services Pty LTD trading as CWBTS (National RTO Code 91138). With close to 3000 active students, BAA delivers pre-apprenticeships through to Advanced Diploma level qualifications across 4 Australian states.


This important role will report to the Chief Executive Officer and work closely with the existing Training Manager – Operations, and Training Coordinators to oversee all Pre-Apprenticeship, Apprenticeship and Traineeship activity within the business with direct Management of all Apprenticeship and Traineeship Trainers and Assessors.

This Training Manager role, will work across departments to coordinate the delivery of apprenticeships and traineeships around Victoria, ensuring that only the highest quality training delivery occurs to achieve great outcomes for students and employers. In addition to this hands-on focus in ensuring that each apprentice and trainee’s journey with BAA is a positive one, a focus will be required for effective relationship management with a range of stakeholders and business partners.

Based at our St Kilda Road Head office yet requiring travel to workplaces where apprentices and trainees are working on occasions, you will work closely with the Training Operations team to ensure that all aspects of the day-to-day delivery and assessment are being delivered professionally, using high quality training resources and assessments and in line with statutory and company obligations.  

Although this role is offered at full-time, applicants looking at part time roles will also be considered.

Key Tasks include;

This role is to undertake the following key tasks for both Builders Academy Australia:

  • Driving a culture of continuous improvement and innovation strongly aligned with organisational values and high quality student learning outcomes;
  • Writing, reviewing, updating and implementing policy and procedure documents relating to the Standards for Registered Training Organisations 2015 (RTO Standards), and State and Federal funding contracts in relation to Apprenticeship and Traineeship activity;
  • Liaising closely with key departments to ensure smooth execution of quality processes and providing advice relating to Quality Assurance and Compliance requirements of apprentices and trainees;
  • Supporting multiple teams across the organisation to meet strategic objectives and KPIs whilst adhering to all regulatory requirements with direct Management of all Apprenticeship and Traineeship Trainers and Assessors;
  • Working with the Training Operations team to schedule Trainers and Assessors, delivering via apprenticeship and traineeship models;
  • Providing strategic people leadership, coaching and training with a focus on developing and implementing streamlined functions, communications and sustainable operational excellence;
  • Working with Training Operations representatives in non-Victorian states to ensure consistency or processes and training and assessment activity;
  • Liaising with Employers, Apprenticeship Support Networks, Jobactive providers, Parents and Schools and other government stakeholders regarding the promotion of and enrolment into Apprenticeships and Traineeships offered including School Based Apprenticeships and Vet in Schools; and;
  • Influencing and negotiating key business and commercial decisions as part of the Management team.


We are seeking a highly motivated and hands-on individual who upholds the highest standards and will lead by example. You will have demonstrated success in a similar senior role within an RTO environment and have a commitment to ensuring best practice.

It will be critical that the successful applicant can create and foster close working relationships with all key staff within the team. To do this they will be a good communicator, supportive and have a 'can-do' attitude.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

  • Have a track record in building strong relationships with major customers, clients and government agencies;
  • Experience in leading and supporting high performing teams in the tertiary education sector including multi-disciplinary departments with a focus on Apprenticeships and Traineeships;
  • Hold an operational current working knowledge of the Standards for Registered Training Organisations 2015 (RTO Standards);
  • Have experience regarding operational and compliance requirements in relation to Apprenticeships and Traineeship delivery;
  • Outstanding interpersonal & communication skills;
  • Certificate IV or Diploma in TAE or higher level educational qualifications (desirable);
  • Qualification in Auditing, Business Management or similar (desirable);
  • Ability to meet ASQA Fit & Proper persons requirements.
