Builders Academy Australia (BAA) is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) that works with employers, industry and students to achieve exceptional training results. BAA was established by Simonds in 2005 for the purpose of training Simonds staff and the staff of Simonds suppliers and partners in VET courses in the residential construction sector.

Based on the principle of “builders training builders”, BAA draws on its deep connections to Simonds Homes to ensure it provides the highest quality curriculum and training services to meet industry needs. In 2018, BAA was recognised as the Victorian Small Training Provider of the Year after being a finalist for the same award in 2017.

As part of the Simonds Group, which also includes leading residential homebuilder, Simonds Homes, BAA includes two RTO's: House of Learning Pty Ltd trading as Builders Academy Australia (National RTO Code 21583 - CRICOS Provider Code:03760B) & City-Wide Building & Training Services Pty LTD trading as CWBTS (National RTO Code 91138).


BAA are seeking an experienced and high performing Business Development Manager to work with the NSW/QLD State Manager to drive business growth across the regions of South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales.

This important role will drive business activity, build relationships and achieve sales targets aligned with helping employers meet their apprenticeship and traineeship needs within their region.

The successful applicant can be based out of our Tweed Heads or Loganholme office and will cover a region stretching from the Sunshine Coast down to Lismore (negotiable).

This role will require advanced interpersonal skills to engage with employers and a broad range of students utilizing effective relationship management and sales techniques.

In addition to sourcing new students, this role will work with our employer solutions team to help to identify and create employment opportunities (apprenticeship and traineeship positions) for our students through the implementation of business to business marketing strategies.

Key Tasks include;

This role is to undertake the following key tasks for both Builders Academy Australia (House of Learning - RTO ID 21583) and CWBTS (RTO ID 91138) RTO’s:

  • Work with existing staff to communicate and coordinate employer vacancies to match these with prospective students;
  • Utilising sales and marketing techniques to successfully secure apprenticeship or traineeship opportunities for students;
  • Identify and attend local networking opportunities to generate employment opportunities for candidates as well as to present to prospective students;
  • Liaising closely with other key departments to ensure smooth processes aligned with apprentice and trainee placement and onboarding;
  • Successfully build strong working relationships with employers and students from varying demographics;
  • Promoting to employers, via phone, email and face to face communication, the benefits of taking on an apprentice or trainee;
  • Organising and conducting group and one-on-one sessions for potential students, completing all enrolment paperwork as required;
  • Developing and managing existing and new business with customers and clients through industry associations, promotional activities and personal and professional contacts in the regions overseen;
  • Planning and developing sales strategies and implementing sales activities to meet set financial targets;
  • Liaising with Employment Service Providers, Group Training Organisations and other external stakeholders to support students in beginning and completing their studies;
  • Researching current labour market requirements to identify how areas of delivery within BAA/CWBTS can align with solutions for employers including Simonds Homes.


We are seeking a highly motivated individual with demonstrated success in a similar role within an RTO or employer/employment solutions environment and who has a commitment to ensuring best practice and great student and employer results.

It will be important that the successful applicant can create and foster close working relationships with all key staff within the team as well as external stakeholders. To do this they will be a good communicator, supportive and have a 'can-do' attitude.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

  • Have a track record in building strong relationships with major customers, clients and external employers;
  • Hold in depth knowledge of operational requirements regarding apprenticeship or traineeship delivery in order to promote these models to employers with experience in promoting trades training highly considered;
  • Outstanding interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong sales and reverse marketing experience, including a proven record of meeting and exceeding sales targets/KPIs;
  • Proven ability to effectively in a sales or BDM role, preferably within the VET or employment services sector;
  • have the ability to travel as required for operational oversight and the development of business opportunities;
  • Able to effectively engage with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders;
  • Problem solving and negotiation skills;
  • Previous experience using the Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Previous experience using a sales/CRM software and maintaining and updating a CRM database such as SalesForce (preferred);
  • Qualification/s in sales, customer service, business administration or similar (desirable);
  • Ability to meet ASQA Fit & Proper persons requirements;

This role will require travel between sites thus a reliable car is required with a car allowance provided to the successful applicant.
